mariners mile open water swim cheshunt

Yesterday saw Herts Young Mariners Base host their first Mariners Mile open water swimming event in Cheshunt. The event was open to anyone over the age of 14 and competitors could take part in a 500m loop of the main lake, a half mile course covering both lakes, or the Mariners Mile Loop, also covering both lakes.

10% of the entrance fee was donated to the Essex & Herts Air Ambulance. Those taking part were able to warm up with crepes and indulgent hot chocolates at the end and each received a Mariners Mile mug and open water swimming hat at the end.

Nicky’s Little Kitchen served food at the event, which was a success due to all the staff and volunteers involved. MFB Osteopathy were also on hand to provide 10 minute massages to competitors when they had finished.

There has been a great response from people following the event:

Alexia Kitching – Had a great time. Never thought I would manage the mile! Thanks for organising it all. Looking forward to the next one.

Cazzie Anne – Brilliant event. Wonderfully organised. Loved it.

Karen Martin – It was brilliant and so well organised. Thanks.

Stuart Kerr – A great day at HYMB. Many thanks to all the wonderful staff. Will be back on Saturday for a swim and next year for the Mariners Mile.

HYMB offers open water swimming on Wednesday evenings from 5pm – 8:30pm and Saturday mornings from 7:30am – 9:45am. Tempted? Take a look at some of the benefits of open water swimming!
